Art + Research

The Manual of Violence project, an investigation into the history and narrativization of violence, has stretched several years and a dozen workshops, couple of games, countless classrooms programs, and a full-length comic book teaching manual (in progress) based on the author's ongoing conversations about violence with young children.

Development

Research phase was funded in 2013 by DCASE. The research include the first Open Forum-Discussion to be included in the extinct Chicago Artist Month. 'Violence as a subject matter' part of the project Manual of Violence will be part of the Chicago Artist Month with a Forum/showcase of Art, Tech and New Media projects developed by teens which subject matter is violence, triggering dialogue and reflection over its causes & effects between peer students and teachers. The discussion will reference work done in Arts and New Media from different after school programs around the city (ASM, Cease Fire, Gallery 37, Marwen, Enlace, Yollocalli, YOUMedia. and more).

The 2014 Anger Games takes place in Chicago. A city where utopian and dystopian persectives often ignore residents reality. The Game will review our economic system claim that resolves social problems while appraising natural and humans resources from which it derives profit.

This is not a Game initially developed as a game this 2015 installation was modifed and adapted to reveal the natural challenges that every new parent run into, regardless of their social and economical background. On it are evident the lack of support in basic needs such as health, job stability and society support in general.

In process

Brea is the first fictional installment in this series: an abstract illustrated story of two canny kids grappling with a magical and terrible heaviness around them in the wake of their school’s closure.

Brea was inspired by the different conversations held with peace-builders in Chicago. These are just some of more than 14 that are edited and published.
